I’m still in the process of getting this blog up and running and stocked with lots of great recipes.  So check back often, and leave me comments to let me know how I’m doing.  I’ll be going back to recipes and adding pictures as I have time to make and photograph them, for now, use your imagination!

I’m a Ph.D. student in English Literature.  In addition to doing a lot of reading and writing (dissertation), I love to cook and bake.  And really, the smell of freshly baked bread can make even the worst intellectual problem seem a lot less important.  The joke in my house is that I am always thinking about food.  As I eat one meal, I’m thinking about what I might make for the next.  You’ll find a mix of recipes here -from healthy, to comfort, to decadent, to convenient.  You’ll also get my thoughts about food (I’m thinking about it all the time, so why not share?).  Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, so I am trying to adjust my eating habits and take care of myself better.  So, while I do focus a lot on comfort food, I’m also trying to makeover my old recipes and try out new things that are better for me.  In that spirit, please post comments with suggestions about how you might change a recipe for your own nutritional or dietary needs – I’m always open to advice, as well as feedback about how you liked the food.

Enjoy, and happy eating!

I have Lupus, and have to be careful how much of the nightshade plants I eat.(potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant)These are triggers for me, and cause inflammation everywhere in my body. Eating right, and eating well doesn’t always means to ‘eat your vegies and fruits’!
    Take care,
    Della

I’ve also heard of the nightshade diet. I’ve tried eliminating nightshades, but it didn’t seem to make a difference for me. It’s a little disappointing actually, if I could control my inflammation with diet I would be all over that! But I do think that anyone with an autoimmune disease should try these diets out (nightshades, gluten-free, etc). It might seem like a pain, but it’s absolutely worth it is it improves symptoms. Good eating!

gluten free for me, and eliminating all artificial sweeteners has eliminated my migraines. phew!
I also went vegetarian, which wasn’t hard as i hate meat anyway.

still working on taming the lupus, fibro, sjogren’s, sinusitis and raynaud’s.
next i am going raw vegan. i think that will do it.

Wow! I’m glad this has worked for you! Luckily, I don’t eat artificial sweeteners anyway, but I’ve also been struggling with migraines (optical ones, super weird) and have tried eliminating nitrates and nitrites as a start. If they continue I might try the gluten free diet again, as these have cropped up since the GF trial.

Good luck with that long list…I certainly wish you luck with the lupus, fibro, sjogren’s, sinusitis, and raynaud’s.
